The Certified Outsourced/Offshore Manager (COOPM) Designation

The COOPM designation was established in June 2007 in conjunction with the Managing Outsourced/Offshore Project training event. Both the program and certification were authorized by the Governing Board of Directors of the International Institute for Outsource Management.

The COOPM is awarded based on,

•Participating in the IIOM certified & authorized Managing Outsourced/Offshore Projects conducted by a Certified COOPM Instructor
•Fulfilling one year project management experience requirements, and
•Successful completion of the COOPM exam with a minimum score of 70 or better.

Successful candidates will be award the COOPM based on upon successful completing and meeting these conditions. Candidates who are unsuccessful in passing the exam can schedule re-examination at a future Managing Outsourced/Offshore Projects program site. Why a COOPM?

The COOPM is a sign that personally and professionally you are involved with outsourced projects, and are qualified to lead these efforts. Outsourcing, whether across the street or around the world, is significantly different from self-directed project. For this reason, individuals that are engaged either as outsourcers or as clients involved with outsourced projects need specialized training to reduce risks that can contribute to project failures. The COOPM also carries with it recognition for the individual as well as the company they are affiliated with. Clients like to know that companies that they are about to be engage with understand the dynamics and issues associated with outsourced/offshore projects in the full context of the topic.

As a COOPM

As a successful COOPM candidate you will be award this designation and will receive a formal electronic certificate that can be printed and displayed reflecting accomplishment. The COOPM is valid for a period of one year from the date of issue. At the end of one year you will have the option of renewing for a nominal fee that covers the administration necessary to maintain your records. Candidates are expected to maintain proficiency in the field of outsourcing by demonstrating a continued educational commitment. A minimum of 24 hrs. (3 class days) per year is required. Candidates must provide proof of this training along with the annual renewal fee or risk the loss and suspended use of the COOPM designation. Fees are set by the regional IIOM office.

A COOPM is also expected to follow the Body of Knowledge as found on the official IIOM website at www.Int-IOM.org. This framework guides COOPMs in carrying out of their professional responsibilities. At all times a COOPM must adhere to the highest ethical and moral standards for the region and internationally. This is essential in maintaining a proper level of respect, recognition, and influence in this critical discipline. Complaints or violation of these fundamentals principals will result in immediate and permanent revocation of the COOPM designation. An appeal process is available and will be used to provide COOPMs with due process. All appeal decisions are final.

The answer is YES. As a COOPM you may wish to become an certified COOPM trainer for your region. A COOPM trainer candidate must,

•Have a valid and current COOPM designation
•Attend a certified train-the-trainer program for Managing Outsourced/Offshore Projects that has been conducted by a Certified Master COOPM trainer (COOPM-MT)
•Pass a COOPM Trainer (COOPM-T) Examination
•Subscribe to the ethical and moral standards associated with the training responsibilities of the COOPM-T
•Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of project management experience of which 3 years is associated with outsourced/offshore projects

Successful candidates will responsible for demonstrating,

•Continuing education training of at least 40 hours (5 class days) per year
•Conducting at least 3 Managing Outsourced/Offshore Project Management classes per year
•Payment of annual renewal fee as established by the regional governing authority

COOPM-T candidates must prescribe to the same ethical and moral standards as required by the COOPM designation and utilize the Body of Knowledge as a guide and found on the official IIOM website at www.int-IOM.org.
